What is Gamma Correction?
Gamma correction is the adjustment of brightness or contrast of an image or video displayed on a monitor.
Why is Gamma Correction important?
Human eyes perceive images very differently from cameras. In the case of cameras, it maintains a linear relationship. Twice the intensity of light is received with twice the signal.
In the case of humans, double the brightness is perceived as just a fraction of it. Gamma helps in the translation of our eye’s light sensitivity and that of the camera. Gamma encoded videos can store tones more efficiently.
